Munnar with children: tea, mist and short walks
- Munnar, India
- 3 days
- Family
Written by the Seenary team from what we know of this place, to get Stories started. Travellers' own stories appear beside it.
Munnar works for a family because the pleasures are simple: rolling tea estates in every direction, cool air, a few gentle walks and a couple of places that explain what you are looking at. Keep the days short, since the roads wind and children tire in a car. One day in town, one day towards the high ground, and one day in the gardens and waterfalls on the way out is plenty.
Day by day
Day 1 · Settle in and see the tea
-
Tea Museum · Culture
A small museum on an estate that shows how the leaf is processed. A good first stop.
-
Tea estate walk · Nature
Ask your stay for a path through the nearest estate. The rows are easy walking and endlessly photogenic.
-
Munnar town market · Shopping
Spices and tea to take home. Busy in the evening.
Day 2 · The high ground
-
Eravikulam National Park · Nature
Home of the Nilgiri tahr. A park bus takes you up; the walk at the top is short and gentle.
-
Mattupetty Dam · Nature
A lake among the hills. Boat rides are the draw for children.
-
Echo Point · Nature
A roadside stop on the lake. Exactly what its name promises.
Day 3 · Gardens and falls
-
Lakkam Waterfalls · Nature
A short walk from the road through a cardamom plantation. Best after the rains.
-
Attukad Waterfalls · Nature
Close to town, seen from a bridge and a small path.
-
Blossom Hydel Park · Nature
A riverside park with paths and swings; an easy last hour before the road home.
