The Lugard Road loop, the best free view
October to December, when the weather is clear and mild.
Yes — the Lugard Road loop is the best free view.
Ride the Peak Tram, then do the Peak Circle Walk and stay for sunset over the harbour. Layers and comfortable shoes help.
Dim sum in Central, and egg tarts.
Victoria Peak rises above Central on the western half of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, looking north over Victoria Harbour to Kowloon; its summit is about 550 m high.
In colonial Hong Kong the cooler air of the Peak made it a retreat for wealthy Europeans, and from 1904 to 1930 residence there was reserved by law for non-Chinese. The Peak Tram, opened in 1888, made the steep slopes easy to reach, and the Peak remains one of the most exclusive residential areas in the city.
Hong Kong's people speak Cantonese, and English is an official language alongside Chinese. The Peak itself is a quiet area of large houses, and walkers, runners and families come up to its shaded paths, where the long-distance Hong Kong Trail begins.
The Peak Tram, opened in 1888, is one of the oldest funicular railways in Asia, and its track is so steep that the buildings outside seem to lean as it climbs.
