Where it is
Salasar is a small town in Churu district of Rajasthan, near Sujangarh on the Jaipur–Bikaner highway, on the sandy plains at the eastern edge of the Thar Desert.
History
According to local tradition, a farmer ploughing his field at the village of Asota unearthed an image of Hanuman in the 18th century, and the devotee Mohandas brought it to Salasar, where the temple was founded. It has since become one of Rajasthan's most visited Hanuman shrines and is often combined with Khatu Shyam.
People
Salasar's people speak Marwari and other Rajasthani dialects alongside Hindi, and the town lives from farming and the pilgrim trade. Devotees offer churma, a sweet of crushed millet or wheat with ghee, and travel in large groups for the full-moon fairs.
