Before you go
Revered locally as the Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga -- one of two places (with Deoghar in Jharkhand) claiming that title.

Where it is
Parli Vaijnath is a town in Beed district in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, on the dry Deccan plateau in the south-east of the district.
History
The town grew around the temple of Shiva as Vaidyanath, which many devotees count among the twelve Jyotirlingas, a title also claimed by Deoghar in Jharkhand. The present stone temple owes much to 18th-century restoration credited to Ahilyabai Holkar, and in modern times Parli has also become known for its thermal power station.
People
Parli is a Marathi-speaking market and railway town whose life mixes pilgrimage with farming and industry, and the surrounding Beed countryside grows cotton, soybean and sugarcane. Mahashivratri brings one of the region's largest fairs.
