About Lalomanu

Where it is

Lalomanu is a village on the southeastern tip of Upolu island in Samoa, in the Aleipata district, with a long white beach facing a group of small islets.

History

A fishing and farming village on the reef-fringed coast, Lalomanu became known for its family-run beach fales in the late twentieth century. The tsunami of the early 2000s destroyed much of the shore, and the village rebuilt its fales along the same beach.

People

Village families run the fales and cook the evening meals themselves; Sunday is kept for church and the to'onai family lunch, when the beach goes quiet.
