Chobe National Park is in northern Botswana, stretching from the Chobe River near Kasane south to the Savuti marshes.
San people once lived in the area, and the region later became home to Basubiya communities along the river. Set aside as a game reserve in the 1960s, Chobe was made a national park in 1968 and is one of the oldest in Botswana.
Kasane and the riverside villages are home to Basubiya and other communities who speak Setswana and Sesubiya, and many work as guides and boat skippers.
Chobe has one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Africa, especially along the river in the dry season.
